Infrastructure

The structuring material Laboratory includes among other items the following equipment:

• devices for measuring tensile and compressive strength

• digital and portional strain gages and data loggers.

• non-destructive testing equipment strength and durability measurements

• concrete and mortar technology equipment

• curing rooms for concrete and mortar specimens

• controlled atmosphere rooms

• furnaces of 16000C capacity for carrying out special tests in cement mortar speciments

• an electric furnace of 800oC capacity for carrying out fire resistance testing on concrete

• a gas furnace of 1400oC capacity for carrying out fire-resistance testing and testing systems of passive fire-resistant concrete (in accordance with the EFNARC standards)

• devices for testing Quality of concrete aggregates

• atomic absorption spectroscopy

In the Laboratory area there is an equipped chemical Laboratory for carrying out the chemical analysis of main building materials.

The staff consists of two faculty members, an external research-assistant, a technician, a chemical technologist, one PhD candidate, two post-graduate students and about 12 under-graduate students who are carrying out their diploma thesis.

• Hydraulic pressure machines of 2000 KN and 3000 KN capacity equipped with devices for measuring compressive and tensile strength of mortar specimens, compressive, tensile strength and static modulus of elasticity of concrete specimens

• sieves for aggregates according to the technology standards of EN

• a Los Angeles apparatus for aggregates

• concrete and mortars mixers of different capacity

• mortar and concrete moulds of different sizes according to EN

• devices for measuring fresh properties of mortars

• devices for measuring the fresh properties of normal and self-compacting concrete slump, slump flow, V-funnel, L-box, J-ring, sieve analysis test)

• device for measuring the air content in fresh concrete according to EN

• compaction tables for concrete and mortars

• portable (electric and gasoline) concrete vibrators

• curing chamber for concrete specimens (temperature range from 5-40 ⁰C and relative humidity range from environment humidity to 99%RH) according to EN

• curing chambers for mortar specimens (temperature range from 5-80 ⁰C and relative humidity range from environment humidity to 60%RH.)

• controlled atmosphere chamber (temperature range from 5-60 ⁰C and relative humidity range from 25 to 90%RH)

• accelerated carbonation chamber

• device for cutting off cores of different sizes

• devices of carbonation measurement

• devices for measuring the water absorbance and water permeability of concrete according to EN Standards

• devices for measuring the chloride resistance of concrete according to NT Built 443 and 492 standards

• precise or high fidelity strain gages to count the length changes of mortar and concrete specimens

• plastic tanks for storage of specimens immersed in sulphate ace and/or chlorides solutions

• drying ovens

• a gas furnice of 1400 ⁰C for carrying out fire resistance tests and testing passive fire resistant systems in concrete (according to the EFNARC standards)

• Pulse velocity measurement devices

• Concrete hammers

• Half cell potential measuring apparatus

• Atomic absorption spectroscopy
